What is obesity?

Overweight and obesity is a condition where a person has excessive total body fat and can cause health problems.

To measure whether someone is obese or not, the test can be done with the scale of body mass index or body mass index (BMI). BMI is a simple index that measures the ratio of weight and height in meters squared (kg/m2) adults.

According to the standard World Health Organization (WHO), when the ratio of BMI equal to or greater than 25, then that includes obesity. Meanwhile, when BMI exceeds 30, then it is obesity.

So what triggers a person to be overweight or even obese?

The main causes of obesity and overweight is the energy imbalance between calories consumed with calories burned.

Excess weight can be caused by the consumption of energy foods loaded with fat, salt and high sugar but poor in vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients.

Obesity can also be caused by lack of exercise, lack of exercise, and lifestyle in urban areas - which are often poorly drained of physical energy.
